The Focus MK2 and MK2.5 instrument clusters become defective relatively often. My experience is that in most cases the problems are caused by bad soldering connections of the circuit board. I repaired quite a lot of these instrument clusters.

The common factor in the faults you've described is the passenger junction box (fuse box or GEM). According to the diagrams in the Haynes manual both the supply and ground connections to the lighting, plus the door switches (and the glovebox light) go through it.

H8DJxG. On almost all Fords, including Mk2 Focus, the Aux power is turned off at the ignition switch when it is turned to start position. The fuse in the Aux supply to the radio is F68 (F108 in later fuseboxes), Measuring the voltage on this fuse will test if the Aux supply from the ignition switch is being turned off.

Unfortunately, that is the common cluster fault. The solder on the main connector needs re-soldering as they get dry joints and the vehicle looses comms with the modules on the car. Plenty of places offer a repair and return service (check eBay, search Focus MK2 cluster repair) it'll cost you about £50-60
